To ensure the effectiveness and sustainability of the CALM (Conquering Anxiety, Loving Mathematics) program, it is essential to track student progress, gather feedback, and assess outcomes continuously. Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) helps identify which strategies are working, where adjustments are needed, and how the program is impacting students’ anxiety levels, coping behaviors, and overall confidence in math. This component ensures that CALM remains a responsive, evolving, and evidence-based intervention. The objectives are to measure changes in students’ levels of math anxiety and coping strategy use over time, evaluate the effectiveness of workshops, support groups, and school-wide activities, gather feedback from students, teachers, and parents for ongoing program refinement, and build a foundation for future scaling or integration of CALM into regular school programs.
Key activities to support M&E include Periodic Re-Administration of Assessment Tools, where the Mathematics Anxiety Rating Scale (MARS) and Brief COPE are re-administered at the end of each quarter. Results are compared with initial assessments to track progress or identify areas needing further support. Class or section trends are analyzed to guide targeted follow-up actions. Additionally, Student Journals and Reflection Logs are used to encourage students to reflect on their experiences after each workshop or support group session. Prompts like “This week, I felt more confident in math because…” or “A coping strategy I used was…” help provide qualitative data on their progress. The ongoing use of personal math journals also contributes valuable insights.
Gathering Teacher and Parent Feedback is another key aspect of M&E. Simple evaluation forms are distributed to teachers and parents after each program milestone, such as awareness campaigns, parent seminars, or math events. These forms include Likert-scale items and open-ended questions for suggestions and observations. Optional teacher check-in meetings are also held to allow teachers to share their classroom-level observations.
Program Review Meetings are scheduled quarterly to review data, successes, and implementation gaps. Data dashboards or simple progress charts are used to visually track growth over time, and workshops, group sessions, or communication strategies are adjusted based on the data analysis. To document the program's impact, Success Documentation and Reporting is carried out, keeping records of success stories, improvements in student behavior, participation, or self-confidence. Testimonials, quotes (with or without permission), and sample student work are collected to showcase the program’s effectiveness. Finally, a CALM Program Impact Report is prepared at the end of the school year for school leaders or division officials to present the findings.
Through this continuous monitoring and evaluation process, the CALM program ensures that it remains relevant, effective, and responsive to the needs of students, teachers, and parents.
