Cafeteria- Many students are working on different things to help the cafeteria take on more environmentally friendly practices. They are thinking about.
What environmentally friendly practices are already taking place?
How can we improve on what is already happening?
GotSneakers-A lot of work is getting done to help spread the word about the sneaker collection! students are thinking about:
How is this initiative helping address climate change? (Go to the GotSneakers website and scroll down to read. You should include this in your posters, flyers, and announcements.)
We need MX announcements ready for Thursday!
When will we start collecting?
Where will we place the collection bins?
Where will we get the bins?

Shred Day-Update from our parent-helper regarding a shred truck - I’m writing because I ran into a bit of a road block when reaching out to arrange a Shred Day truck. Unfortunately, the Cook County Sheriff’s office said they can only rent Shred trucks to me for events in the district within which I work (which is for Rep. Gong-Gershowitz and includes Evanston, Wilmette, Glenview, etc). I then called State Rep. Margaret Croke’s office to see if they would be willing to help. Unfortunately, they were very non committal. They said they’ve had three Shred Day events already this year and don’t want to host a fourth in the next few weeks. She said they would possibly be willing to rent a truck for the Fall but not certain because of the election/other commitments. I am so sorry! Unless, I hear otherwise, it sounds like the Shred Day event will need to be taken off the table as an option for now.
Questions for them to consider:
Students have begun partnering with classrooms to pick up their paper and encourage recycling.
What will we do with the paper we collect if we can’t get a shred truck?
How can we keep track of how much paper we are collecting?
Do we need to shred the paper or just make sure it gets recycled?
How is the school currently recycling paper? Are they? Is it working?

Cafeteria- The students need to get together as a group across all sections to share what they are doing and figure out how they can work together. They will meet during tutorial 10:30-11 (before the special MX) on Monday, May 18th (Day 1).

Shred Day-Read Mr. Simonetti (head of facilities/maintenance) email;
So here's the scoop on this...there's a recycling committee that Susan Elliott oversees but I'm not sure how much they've done this year. As for the answers to your questions...there are 8 green recycling bins throughout the school and they're taken out once every couple of week and I think 4 shredding bins that get picked up every six weeks by a company called R4. That's pretty much it.

Cafeteria- Met during tutorial and learned about students taking the following actions;
Interviewing cafeteria workers about practices currently in place that are good for the environment
Designing and beginning to implement competitions to incentivize less use of plastics, improve composting practices, and decrease the amount of food waste
Designing a survey to gage interest and knowledge of using compostable plastic utensils
Researching alternatives to plastic utensils and presenting to the cafeteria staff
GotSneakers- treats4sneaks will take place May 26-29 before and after school, bins have been placed in LS, IS and MS
Shred Day-An Email was sent out to Parker adults asking them to start saving their paper in their classrooms and offices. We will be delivering boxes to classrooms and offices that request to participate. Later next week we will collect the boxes of paper and take it outside to see it shredded when the truck arrives.

Cafeteria- email from Ms. Silva about the problematic bin outside of the cafeteria
Can we do something about this?????
GotSneakers- email written by Ophelia Much about Sneaks4Snaks: Hello Middle & High Sc
The 6th grade was brainstorming ways to educate and show people about problems with climate change, and after a lot of thinking, we decided to do something we like to call Sneaks4Snacks.
Basically, Sneaks4Snacks is a bake sale, where you can trade in an old pair of sneakers for some treats, such as cookies or brownies! All of the sneakers that are donated will be given to an organization called GotSneakers, which uses old sneakers as recyclable materials. The dates will be in the morning and afternoon from May 26th to May 29th.
We hope to see you there!
Ophelia, Bella, Dylan, and Avery (and the 6th grade!)

Hello Students & Faculty Members,
My name is Avery Lobel and I’m in sixth grade. For the climate action unit in science class we split up into groups to find what could make an impact and as a person who loves shoes. Please come and support our group by bringing a pair of sneakers to the alcove and in return you will get snacks of your choice. We really have put lots of work into this so please find a way to support. The dates to come are Tuesday the 26th through Friday the 29th before and after school hours. Hope we see your face next week!
Thank you ,
