'The Passport Program' is designed to increase the number of visitors attending Mountain State Maple Day events at sugar shacks.  It also strives to encourage visitors to visit multiple sugar camps during their festival visit.

The West Virginia Department of Agriculture, Future Generations Unviersity Appalachian Program, and the West Virginia Maple Syrup Producers Association continue to work collaboratively to further advance agritourism across the state of West Virginia.

Through combined efforts, expansion is planned for National Maple Syrup Day, Mountain State Maple Days, and the State Fair of West Virginia annually.

Trainings, workshops, webinars, and other educational opportunities are planned for and by the producers in coordination with Future Generations University Appalachian Program, the West Virginia Department of Agriculture, and other research partners.

Additionally, Future Generations University Appalachian Program will be launching Sprout School in January 2024.  This 9-month program is designed to support individuals interested in implementing youth agriculture, local product sourcing for schools, or similar activities. This program, initially funded by Northeast SARE Professional Development monies, grew out of previous work done within West Virginia based on Farm to School activities, a framework developed by the USDA that focuses on connecting schools to healthy, local foods and agriculture-based education opportunities.
