We are so thankful for all of you and your contributions to this amazing community.  Thank you for supporting your child to the best of your ability, to ensure that they maximize their learning and overall growth.  On behalf of the entire Warm Springs team, we hope everyone has a wonderful Winter Break and a Happy New Year!

Office Policy Reminder

We do not send messages to students as this disrupts instruction. If you forgot to tell your child something, please email their teacher. Horner Middle School, follows this same protocol. For drop off items, please remember we only accept medication and glasses. We provide free lunch if needed and we have filtered water as well as emergency water, in all classrooms. We do not accept homework, projects, lunches, etc.

Our school is looking for monetary donations to help replace old/broken equipment on our school site (ie. poster maker, die cut machine, stage curtains, padding in the MUR, etc.). Every donation helps us reach our goal of providing fun and educational experiences to our students. All donations are appreciated, and all donors will be recognized on our website.

We appreciate your time and consideration, as together, we can make a difference in the lives of many students. You may donate online through My School Bucks to make a secure donation online (fees may apply) and specify “General School Donation” in the “Donate to Classroom #” section. Or, you may drop off donations in our front office on school days from 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Checks may be written to FUSD/Warm Springs Elementary.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Warm Springs Science Corner

Here are some students working through out the month in our various science labs, for some hands on science activities. All grade level teachers will be participating in a full day science collaboration with our district science program manager. This day will be used to review our new Amplify curriculum and how to maximize hands on science activities.  Amplify does not provide hands on science, throughout each unit. We will do our best to incorporate hands on activities, if they fit within the sequence and flow of the Amplify curriculum .

GATE (Gifted and Talented Education)

Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) provides support for gifted and talented (GATE) students through differentiated instruction. FUSD believes that differentiated instruction not only serves the needs of our exceptional students, but also enhances the entire educational program for all students. In February of 2020, funding for the CogAT testing was cut as part of the budget savings. While the CogAT testing has been the primary means of qualifying students for GATE identification we are now in the process of identifying an alternative way of identifying students. There will not be a test for GATE eligibility given this year.

During the 2023/2024 school year we will continue to identify 5th and 6th grade students who were not identified in an earlier grade. These students may be considered for GATE identification through the professional judgement process. Teachers and/or parents may nominate a student. A completed nomination form must be submitted by the teacher or parent to the school Principal by December 15, 2023. Principals may set up meetings with the teacher, student, and parent, as appropriate, to discuss the student’s eligibility for GATE identification. In May, 2024, parents, teachers, and students who applied for professional judgement will be informed of their child’s GATE eligibility.

If your child is interested in participating, please review this information and have them turn in their submission to their teacher no later than January 12. The submission form is linked within the above link. Good luck to all our aspiring writers!

Spelling Bee

4th and 5th grade classes are currently holding their class Spelling Bees. Our school  Spelling Bee with take place next week. There no longer is an FUSD Spelling Bee. Our school site winner of our Bee will have an opportunity to advance, by participating in the online competition, which allows them the opportunity to continue to advance.

Message from the Student Support Services Department:

Dear Families and Caregivers,

We love having your children at school all school year!

This is the time of year when winter weather takes a toll on school attendance. Road conditions and rain can make it hard to get your children to school. So can illnesses such as colds, flu, fevers, earaches, and COVID-19.

These absences, even if they are excused, break the routine of daily attendance which can impact students feeling connected and engaged in learning. Please consider these steps to keep your children healthy and in school this winter.

1.  Develop back up plans for getting your children to school. Check who can give your children a ride if you can’t take them, or form a “walking school bus” to walk to school with other families. [Maybe insert information on earliest time student can be dropped off and breakfast info]

2. If your children get sick or you are concerned about Covid or the flu, talk to your child’s medical provider or the school nurse for advice.

3. Stomach pain and headaches can be signs of anxiety and may not be reasons for keeping a child home. If you feel that anxiety or stress is playing a role, talk to your child’s teacher, the school nurse, counselor or your medical provider about how best to support your child.

4. Encourage children to wash their hands before and after eating and after using the restroom.

5.   Encourage healthy habits such as getting enough sleep, eating healthy foods, drinking fluids and getting exercise.

Thank you for partnering with us!
