“NOTHING WILL WORK UNLESS YOU DO.” – MAYA ANGELOU
The Core Support Program at Walters Middle School is designed to help students develop the academic, organizational, and social-emotional skills needed for success in middle school and beyond. Through support in core content areas, pre-teaching and re-teaching of concepts, and explicit instruction in cognitive learning strategies, students build skills in reading comprehension, memory, organization, study habits, test-taking, and written expression.
In addition to academic support, students receive instruction in self-advocacy, goal setting, executive functioning, and transition planning to help them become more independent learners. Student progress is monitored regularly and reviewed throughout the school year in accordance with each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Collaboration is a key component of the Core Support Program. I work closely with your student's general education teachers, service providers, and families to ensure that accommodations and supports are consistently implemented. Together, we strive to create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where every student can build confidence, reach their goals, and have a successful and rewarding middle school experience.
