Books at Maloney Library are labeled with color-coded stickers that indicate their
"Accelerated Reader" reading level.
If you get books from another source, like the classroom or public library, and want to know their reading levels, you can find them here: arbookfind.com
When a book has a very common title or many different versions, using the "Advanced Search" tab will allow you to find the level corresponding to your exact book. For example, you can search using both title and author to find a book with a very common title (e.g. "Sharks"). You can also search by entering the ISBN number located on the barcode on the back cover or on the title page of the book. Different versions of the same story can have very different reading levels - e.g. the unabridged version vs. a junior classic version.
NOTE: Not all books have AR levels. Not all versions of a story have AR levels (e.g. a Disney version of a classic story). Also, it takes a while before a level is determined for a newly published book. So even if a book is the latest in a series of books that all have AR levels, it may not have a level for several months.
What is the Accelerated Reader (AR) Program?
Renaissance Learning is a company that assigns each book a certain reading level based on students' understanding of various reading comprehension strategies, such as identifying main ideas and details, making inferences, understanding sequence, and understanding words and phrases in context.
With the help of their teacher, students can choose books at the appropriate reading level for them when coming to Maloney Library. This enables students to continue to improve their reading skills and enjoyment of reading by ensuring the books they choose are just right for them - challenging, but not frustrating.
