Mental Health and Social Media: An Interview with Brown University Professor Dr. Nesi
Dr. Jacqueline Nesi is an Assistant Professor at Brown University, where she studies the risks and benefits of technology use among youth. She completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology at Harvard University, and her PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her goal is to conduct research that will directly improve the lives of adolescents. She believes that by better understanding how digital technologies contribute to teens’ development, people can develop more effective assessment, education, and intervention tools.
The videos on this page are presented by three Irvington students for the QUEST project that takes place during senior year. Dr. Jacqueline Nesi will be answering questions covering the subjects of social media and its effects on adolescent's mental health, as well as the stigma surrounding it. A few questions answered in the interview include: "How can we stop feeling pressured by social media?", and "How do you think stigma affects the mental health industry?". If you are interested in learning more about the relationship between social media and mental health, check out the videos below!
