Parents' FAQs

What books did my child check out?

Your child can login to Destiny Discover. (See below to learn how to login.)

If your child is 1st - 5th grade, have your child come to the library. I'm not supposed to tell you which books they checked out for privacy reasons, even though it's not too strict for Elementary Schools. If your child is in TK or Kindergarten, I'll tell you since they can't come to the library during the recess.

My child finished the book. Can my child return it early and get another one?

Yes. The Library is open before/after school and during the recess for students. They can come to return the book and check out a new one.

Can parents check out books?

Only if a parent volunteers in the library at least an hour a week. We have check out rules. (Not two books of the same series, same author. Only one graphic novel.) They apply to the parents, too.

My child lost or damaged a book.

If a book is damaged, please do not try to fix it at home. Have your child bring the book to me and tell me what happened. (Please remind them NOT to put it in the Return Book Cart in their classroom.) I can repair most of the damaged books. (I might send you a Damaged Book Notice to ask you to remind your child to take care of library books.) If the damage is beyond repair or the book is wet, we'll have to ask to pay a replacement fee.

A book is considered lost when it's 4 weeks overdue.

I will send you a notice. In many cases, I offer you a choice to give me the same replacement book instead of paying the fee. If the lost/damaged is book is hardcover, the replacement book must be hardcover. The condition has to be "New' or "Like New".

How many books can my child check out?

TK/K - 1 book

1st/2nd - Up to 2 books (1st graders start the school year with 1 book.)

3rd/4th - Up to 3 books

5th - Up to 4 books

If TK/K students have an overdue book, I will check out the new book anyway. I'll put a post-it note with the student’s name and tell the student to give the book to the teacher. The teacher will keep the new book in their classroom until the student returns the old one and swap.

If a 1st - 5th grade student has any overdue books, the student is allowed to check out the difference of their limit. For example, even if a 5th grader forgot 2 books they can check out 2 new books.

If students have any fines, they may not check out any more books until the books are returned or lost books are paid for.

If 1st - 5th graders need a book for a class project, they can check out one additional book for the project. Even students with fines can check out. And that book can be renewed until the project is over.

Can we donate books to the library?

Yes! But all books must be approved by the District, so I can't guarantee the books you donated will be in the library. Also, if we have enough copies of the book you donated, I'll give it away to students, teachers, or other school libraries.

*Currently, I am NOT accepting book donations. I'll start accepting them again in fall.
