About us

La Hondura Canyon as a preserved area and a project aiming to designate the land as a Civil Society Natural Reserve to foster environmental culture in that region, is an initiative of nonprofit Fundación Montecito. Our NGO was created in 2010, it has a base in Sogamoso and Tota, and most of its work has been directed to improve governance on wetlands, specially on Lake Tota (largest lake in Colombia).

This project in La Hondura represents a new scenario for us in terms of the type of ecosystem in which we are focusing, yet a great opportunity for us to deliver and improve our capabilities further, and raise the scope of of foundation's spirit and mission: action and advocacy for the conservation of Andean mounts and wetlands.
