Saturday, November 4th, area Robotics teams gathered at Bullock Creek High School for the Middle School Midland First Tech Challenge Qualifier. Jefferson Middle School Robotics Team, the TechnoHuskies, led by Coaches Sam Qiu, Lisa S. Tsay and Brian Mowry advanced to the State Competition by earning the Inspire Award!

According to the FTC Website, this judged award is given to the team that truly embodies the ‘challenge’ of the FIRST® Tech Challenge program. The team that receives this award is a strong ambassador for FIRST programs and a role model FIRST Tech Challenge team. This team is a top contender for many other judged awards and is a gracious competitor. The Inspire Award Winner is an inspiration to other teams, acting with Gracious Professionalism® both on and off the playing field. This team is able to communicate their experiences, enthusiasm and knowledge to other teams, sponsors, their community, and the Judges. Working as a unit, this team will have demonstrated success in accomplishing the task of designing and building a robot. The team that earns the Inspire Award automatically advances to the next level.

The Jefferson TechnoHuskies have worked very hard to ensure that all members are knowledgeable of all parts of the Robotics process, which was noted by the Judges. Eight judges interviewed TechnoHuskies during the lunch time and afternoon matches. They placed 8th overall for their driving in the Relic Recovery challenge. The Jefferson CyDogs, who placed third overall, selected the TechnoHuskies and the Jefferson Wired Wolves as their alliance partners, giving them more competition time and a better chance at advancing to the State Competition in Battle Creek in December. The Jefferson CyDogs and the Northeast Viking Vigilantes will join the TechnoHuskies at the State Competition. All five Midland Robotics teams (including Jefferson’s Wired Wolves and Northeast’s Savage Vikings) will compete again in Big Rapids in early December for another chance at qualifying for States.
