name is Josh Leonard I am a ninth grade student here at Wilson High School. I am an A/B student and I play varsity basketball I like hanging with friends and playing video games. I am a hard working student and enjoy a challenge and doing hands on work with other classmates or even alone.
Being a student athlete I love winning not just in basketball but life as a whole I think everybody feels the same about this. Winning defines a lot of things sometimes it also creates other arguments like which person is better. Then it has many different pros and cons like sometimes winning can put too much on your back but winning can also make you feel like your on top of the world.
But it is also sometimes good to lose in some aspects like to humble yourself and make you want to win even more so you have to work harder and try and be the best you be!
In today's blog I will be explaining the challenges of being a student athlete. When playing a sport for your school you have a lot of challenges like grades, keeping up with your sports, and still wanting to enjoy your life my self I have many challenges like getting enough sleep instead of wanting to play video games or be on my phone. And I always have a hard time with some due dates like projects and long assignments when I go to school I try to go through all my classes and then basketball practice or weight lifting and go hard from the start so I can one day be proud of my work.
For some student athletes its easier then others because others have more obstacles like having to help around their house or have a harder trouble with school then others being a student athlete is very hard to maintain and keep doing what you love but at the end you just to be glad you kept going with your sport and getting your education.
As being a male athlete I feel to where in certain aspects with sports females are treated wrongly or differently than males. Like being underpaid or disrespected. But some things make people don't want to watch female sports but there could be different things people like to watch from female sports. But I feel that females are just as skilled as men and some could compete in different sports with men. But some people feel as if females are just being thrown in the trash even though sometimes women are disrespected they still have some easier things like in basketball having a smaller ball or in softball having a smaller field. But overall females should not be treated differently from males it is wrong and not okay.
There are many places that have a spot in my heart but two are the Florence Ymca and Mcleod gym these help find my self towards the love that I have for basketball. Basketball is just a sport to me it is how I am going to provide and get out of South Carolina these places have helped me become better at the game and have a better understanding for it basketball has a lot of adversity it has ups and downs. When I was younger I used to go to Mcleod a lot for a number of reasons like wanting to get better, having something on my mind, and if i'm bored and wanting something to do on the other hand the Ymca has also did those things but i feel as I have a deeper love for it then Mcleod because I can go there with my friends swim, lift weights, and still do what I love. Both places have helped me find and really focus my life on basketball.
Its hard to choose the biggest influence I don't really have one but someone it could be is LeBron James he is my favorite basketball player and how he provides for his family and made a name for him self from just doing what he loves really inspired me. Lebron showed me that you don't have to have certain things in life to be successful like growing up in poverty and having to get through obstacles with still going hard with hoops and school work. LeBron is a wonderful dad, businessman, and wonderul basketball player.
As going through life you can find and create different passions for yourself like by school and other things.
My passion is basketball I love the sport I wanna go far and make a way for my family not to work any more. I have loved the sport for a long time and want to make a way to get my family out of SC. And make my mom proud I just want to be successful I just wanna make a name for myself and show others that they can do the same by just playing the sport they love i want my name to be bigger and better then SC.
Sports Media is very important for student athletes to get their name out there and able to be seen all over. It is also good for students to work on future jobs and explore a lot of options it can also help with self confidence and get people to come out of their shell. This class can help students with being accountable and serious about their work.
