LAW BASED COURSES
PERSONAL LAW (BU05)
Credit: 1/2 Length: 20 Weeks Grade : 9-12 Prerequisite: None
This 1/2 year course is designed to allow students an introduction to the United States legal process. Students will be shown how to differentiate between a criminal matter and a civil matter. They will also learn how to use their legal rights in personal as well as business situations that take place throughout their personal and work lives. Students will do case breakdowns, evaluate real world cases and discuss current legal topics. Open to all grade levels, but this is recommended as the first law elective for students also interested in Business Law or Debate Communications and Trial Skills.
BUSINESS LAW (BU06)
Credit: 1 Length: 40 Weeks Grade : 9-12 Prerequisite: None
This full-year course is designed to allow students to be introduced to Business Law topics to prepare for any future career path. Students will be introduced to Employment Law regulations, Criminal and Civil Law business matters, and numerous contract law related topics. This course is not only designed for students interested in entering a legal profession, but also future business professionals to understand the rules and regulations that regulate businesses daily. The course will discuss current events and allow students to break down cases to make arguments. The course is open to all grade levels, but it is recommended that students consider Personal Law before this. It is not required that Personal Law is taken first.
DEBATE, COMMUNICATION & TRIAL SKILLS (BU07)
Credit: 1/2 Length: 20 Weeks Grade: 9-12 Prerequisite: None
Communication skills are the number one skill employers look for in all employees. This 1/2 year course is designed to allow students the opportunity to develop stronger communication skills through a series of mini units. While this course was designed to also introduce students to legal debate, it is also helpful for future business students who will present to business groups at meetings or presentations. Students will learn how to ask open-ended questions of a witness, introduce evidence, set proper foundation for argument, make objection and responses and more. The final project is a class trial, in which students will argue in 2 teams in front of a local Western New York Attorney and a jury. There is no grade level requirement or prerequisite for this course.
CAREER/WORK BASED COURSES
CAREER FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT & PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT (BU09)

All students need a strong, professional resume. All students need to understand how to do their own taxes or budgets. All students need to understand how to properly prepare for career-based interviews. All students need to better understand how investments work, how interest rates determine purchase costs and how to plan for retirement. This course is designated to allow students to complete a series of real work projects to do all of those things. Students will complete projects throughout this course, hear career-based speakers and complete exit interviews highlighting their work. This course is designed for junior and senior students looking to prepare for college and career entry, but its open to all grade levels. Students will use Microsoft Office 365 for projects.
FINANCE BASED COURSES
ACCOUNTING 1 (BU14)

This course introduces the complete accounting cycle and develops basic job skills in the accounting field. Both manual and computer methods are covered. If you are planning to take business courses in college, this course should be on your list of high school choices. Job shadowing experience available. Students will use software including Microsoft Excel 2010, Microsoft Word 2010 and Windows 7 operating system.
ACCOUNTING II (BU15)
Credit: 1 Length: 40 Weeks Grade : 10-12 Prerequisite: Accounting I
Additional topics involving more complex accounting applications and the extensive use of computers expand the basic concepts and skills learned in Accounting I. Along with Accounting I, this course will provide you with salable job skills and/or excellent background for the study of business in college. Job shadowing experience available. Students will use software including Microsoft Excel 2010, Microsoft Word 2010 and Windows 7 operating system.

Join the next generation of successful business leaders! Discover the world of business, learning the basics and beyond in business finance, marketing, and entrepreneurship. Dive into the "Shark Tank" for an up-close peek and insight into the world of business start-ups, entrepreneurs, inventors and investors, analyzing real business pitches and investment opportunities. Team up with your fellow students to put your new business skills and knowledge to work; possibly even pitching your own business idea. These activities, along with real-world experience and wisdom from visiting business pros and integrated Microsoft Office 365 training, will better prepare you for your future whether it involves starting and running your own business, having a career in business or simply gaining practical life skills. Take the plunge! Students in this course will be eligible to receive three college credits through SUNY Erie for a reduced tuition.
