Hello, My name is Hailey Hutchings. I am your 2023 - 2024 Chapter Reporter. I have been around agriculture my whole life. I grew up in the town of Fall River Mills. I grew up around horses, dogs, and many other animals. When I got the opportunity to join FFA my eighth grade year I was more than excited. FFA has had a huge impact on my life over these past few years. I have been granted many opportunities such as being the Chairman of the Advanced Parliamentary Procedure team. I have also competed in many other individual competitions such as Creed and Impromptu. I continue to advance my public speaking through Job Interview and Parliamentary Procedure Competitions. You might ask what I do outside of FFA? I love to rodeo and I have done it ever since the age of six. I started out by competing in many Jr. Rodeos then I moved onto competing for the California High School Rodeo Association District 1. I also attend Fall River Jr. Sr. High School and I will be going into my Junior year. I can’t wait for this upcoming year and all the opportunities.

This is the first year McArthur FFA entered a float in the parade. We had many people who were involved with riding on the float such as new incoming FFA members, current members, and alumni members. All of our shop classes worked very hard on creating such a beautiful float for the public to enjoy. For our ag mechanics projects our red wood picnic and bench was the best in show and all the money generated from this project will be donated to hospice. This was another first for McArthur FFA. We had twenty floral arrangements entered into the floral exhibit. Each kid that entered an arrangement received honorable mentions. Congratulations to all the people who competed in the 2023 Inter-Mountain Fair.
Fair time is right around the corner! With that being said all livestock kids showing an animal at the fair make sure your AET is one hundred percent up to date. McArthur FFA is proud to say there are over 50 projects entered in the fair ranging from livestock to floral. Projects such as market pigs, lambs and steers, wood shop items, breeding cattle, and new this year floral arrangements. These kids have been working hard to make sure their projects are perfect to be entered in the fair. We will also be participating in the Inter-Mountain Fair Parade on Sunday September 3rd at 12:00pm. McArthur FFA had an amazing time at our 2023 Banquet with a lot of members in attendance. This night exemplified many different awards and recognition of some very special people. The night started with an amazing tri-tip dinner and a slideshow that showed all the success and memories we made throughout our FFA season. After our amazing dinner and laughs we had during the slideshow, we moved into recognition of events. We recognized all the kids that participated in Creed, Impromptu, Prepared Speaking, Job Interview, Extemporaneous Speaking, Parliamentary Procedure, and Forestry. We then awarded all the degree recipients. We had 24 freshmen that received their Greenhand degree, with a medal of bronze. We also had 11 sophomores receive their chapter degree, with a medal of silver, and then we had 2 juniors receive their State Degree, with a medal of gold. After this excitement it was time to get into the recognition of some very important people. We first recognized Mrs. Kelly Freeland- Sloat for her 23 years of service to our school and saying farewell to this amazing principal as she is retiring to spend time with her kids and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed upon the school campus. We then recognized Ms. Alex Anderson for her one year of dedication to our chapter and school. We will miss her fun personality and dedication. We wish her the best of luck with her next chapter and school. After we wiped the tears away from our eyes we all got onto the edges of our seats for the awards ceremony. We started out with our Star Discovery Award which is for an outstanding eighth grader. We awarded Kyle Bischoff with the Star Discovery Award. We then went onto award our Star Greenhand which is the most outstanding freshman in our chapter. We awarded Blayk Cossairt with the Star Greenhand Award for his drive and dedication that he has put into FFA this year. We then awarded our Star Chapter Farmer which is an FFA member who demonstrated the top production in agriculture. We were proud to award Piper Lakey as our Star Chapter Farmer. After the fun and excitement of awards we invited the Vigil Family up to the podium to present the Terri Vigil Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to one special senior who is very involved in FFA and has put a lot of their time and dedication into this organization. This scholarship is in memory of Terri and her love for FFA and our school. We then invited our advisors Rick Neugebauer and Ellen Van Noy up to the podium to present the seniors with their graduation cords for all the hard work they have done over their past years. The last degree we awarded for the night was the Honorary Chapter Degree. This degree is awarded to a community member who has provided exceptional service and support to FFA and agricultural education. This year we were proud to award Perry and April Thompson with the Honorary Chapter Degree for their outstanding dedication. As we started to wrap things up we watched as our Chapter President Piper Lakey was awarded her retiring gavel and the officers signed out of their positions. The time we have all been waiting for, the installation of our new Chapter Officers for the year of 2023-2024! Everyone was on edge waiting to hear the results. The announcements were made: Your 2023-2024 Chapter Officers are Sentinel: Abraham Estes, Reporter: Hailey Hutchings, Treasure: Olivia Peterson, Secretary: Kaydence Babcock, Vice President: Noel Jacobson, President: Ellie Norris. The chapter ended the night with putting the newly elected officers in their new stations. We thank everyone that came out and supported the McArthur FFA Chapter. We would not have been able to do all of these amazing things without the support and generosity of our amazing community. We are so greatly appreciative of everyone who was able to join us and celebrate the amazing success and opportunities that the McArthur FFA was able to seek this year.
