Allow your child to write in any genre they choose. Giving them this flexibility will allow them to foster creativity. If they need help getting started, give them some genre options (Nonfiction, realistic fiction, fantasy, poetry, etc.) and help them to brainstorm a list of ideas that they could write about that excite them within that genre.
