Our progress monitoring folders will go home 3 times a year: October, January/February, and March/April. These folders will provide parents with standards based progress monitoring on essentials for reading and math. These also provide parents with grade level resources to support you and your child at home based on these essential skills.

It is important that students are reading not only at school but at home as well. It is recommended that students read at least 20 minutes a day at home in order to make significant strides in reading and keep an interest. In second grade, students will make leaps in reading. At this stage students go from "learning how to read" to "reading to learn".
Here are some ways you can support your child in reading at home:
Have your child read aloud to you
Partner read with your child (you read one page, they read one page)
Give students time to figure out tricky words instead of correcting them or telling them
Take time to look at the pictures (if any) to help make predictions/inferences
Ask questions frequently ("What was that part about?" "How was the character feeling?" What did you learn in this section?")
One of the online resources we use the most in reading is now accessible from home! If you'd like to log your child into Amplify from home, here is how: login information
