A Comprehensive School Counseling Program is a coordinated, intentional plan that outlines how school counselors support student success in academic, career, and social/emotional development. It aligns with both the ASCA National Model and the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs, ensuring services are proactive, equitable, and outcome-focused.
This program includes four main components:
Guidance Curriculum: Classroom lessons that teach skills such as emotional regulation, goal setting, decision-making, and conflict resolution. Frisco ISD also uses Character Labs to strengthen students’ social-emotional skills, resilience, and positive character traits that support success in school and life.
Individual Planning: Helping students set and reach personal, academic, and career goals.
Responsive Services: Providing short-term counseling, crisis intervention, and referrals to meet immediate student needs.
System Support: Collaborating with staff, families, and community partners to promote a positive school climate and continuous program improvement.
A comprehensive program is data-driven, meaning counselors use data from sources such as attendance, achievement, and behavior reports to identify student needs, close gaps, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
The ultimate goal is to help all students become cared for, capable, and connected individuals who are future-ready and able to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
