Dear Pink Families,

It’s time for Choir at Pink Elementary! Every child in 4th and 5th grade is invited to participate in the Pink Choir. Practices will be held AFTER school on Thursdays from 3:10-4:00pm and will begin on September 7, 2023.

ALL students are invited to participate (no auditions!) but there will be some attendance and behavior guidelines in place to ensure a wonderful experience for all students! Please read all information thoroughly to ensure this is a good fit for your student as well as your family. 

In choir, we will learn about pitch, intonation, tone quality, memorization capabilities, phrasing, dynamics, posture, and breathing. This requires intense concentration and participation, so please come prepared to learn, but to also have fun!

If interested in joining, please complete the Google form by Thursday, August 31st.

The cost to join choir for the year will be $15 paid through OnlineSchoolPayments (at a later date). This money goes towards the cost of the choir t-shirt for the year as well as towards other necessities as they arise. The choir fee is non-refundable once shirts are ordered. The choir t-shirt will be the uniform for all group performances throughout the year along with jeans or shorts (depending on the type of performance) and athletic shoes. 

REHEARSAL ATTENDANCE

Singers must attend ALL rehearsals in order to fully learn the music being taught.  However, we all understand that unavoidable circumstances do arise.  Please notify Mrs. Masood, preferably via email at masoodk@friscoisd.org, if your child is going to be absent for any reason.

A singer may be absent 4 times per year for illness, too much homework, nausea, doctor’s appointments, vacation, “forgot”, etc.  

This is not meant to punish the student in any form or fashion, but simply to ensure the success of the other students involved. Choir is just like a team sport where we need each student present and doing “their part” for the success of the whole group!

PERFORMANCE ATTENDANCE

All choir performances listed on the music calendar listed above are considered mandatory, so please ensure they work with your family’s calendar before committing. 

There is always room for compromise, but your child must be present at choir rehearsals and performances to fully participate and ensure a great experience for all students involved.

Appropriate conduct is expected of choir members during all chorus-related and school activities. Elementary choirs are often large groups and self-control during those 45 minutes is key to our success! I ask that all students in our choir adhere to our Think Pink motto:

• Be positive and understand that their actions impact those around them 

• Be a leader and an example others can follow (inspire) 

• Maintain a growth mindset and never give up when things are challenging 

• Keep their hands, feet, objects and unkind words to themselves

Some opportunities to volunteer may arise during the year. As opportunities present themselves, Mrs. Masood will send a group text and email asking those interested to sign up online via SignUpGenius.
