The role of the counselor exists to help students, parents, teachers, and administrators. My goal is to help students so that they can achieve their greatest academic success. I perform a number of duties in order to achieve my goal. My direct interaction with students occurs in classroom guidance lessons, small group lessons, and meeting with a student on an individual basis.
Classroom Guidance
Guidance is conducted twice monthly. The counselor addresses the monthly character traits: Purpose, Self-Control, Gratitude, Zest, Curiosity, Social Intelligence, Growth Mindset, Grit, and Optimism, as well as a wide variety of topics including: problem solving, goal setting, responsibility, cooperation, substance abuse and prevention, goals, college, friends, bullying, and the list goes on! In addition, teachers may request that I talk with a class to help with a special issue.
Small Groups and WIN Groups
Small groups or WIN groups are another way that I interact with students. We meet to discuss a topic of interest to that group. We have a great time!
Individual Guidance
I do meet individually with students to help them through an issue or situation. It is important to keep in mind that school counselors do not provide therapy. Remember that my goal is to help students with academic success and issues that could interfere with their classroom success. If your child is experiencing an issue that affects them outside of school, I have a variety of resources that may help! Please let me know.
