School Nurse Notice regarding: Absences, Excuses, Attendance Concerns, Truancy, Lack of Parent Notes, etc.
Frisco ISD school nurses are healthcare professionals dedicated to supporting students' well-being while at school. They are not authorized to provide excuses for absences unless students meet specific district health exclusion guidelines. The goal is to be present and learning while using good judgment. Minor discomfort shouldn't keep you from your education, but serious symptoms require rest at home.
If your child needs medical documentation for an absence, please:
Schedule an appointment with your primary care physician
Use a telehealth service
Visit an urgent care center
The school nurse's role is to:
Provide first aid and care for students who become ill or injured during school hours
Monitor students with chronic health conditions
Implement district health protocols
Support students who meet district exclusion criteria (such as fever, vomiting, or other contagious conditions)
Your education matters, and being present in class is key to learning.
While perfect attendance isn't the goal, consistent presence is.
Come to School If:
You have mild sniffles or a minor cough
You have seasonal allergies
You're feeling a bit tired
You have a mild headache that responds to over-the-counter medicine
You have minor aches from physical activity
Stay Home If:
You have a fever (100.0°F or higher) or have had a fever in the last 24 hrs.
You're experiencing vomiting or diarrhea
You have a severe, persistent and/or productive cough
You have a rash of unknown origin
You're too sick to focus or participate
Remember: Being present matters, but so does everyone's health. If you're unsure, check with your physician. They can help make the right call.
During your time at school:
Wash your hands regularly
Cover coughs and sneezes
Keep tissues handy
Stay hydrated
Let your teacher know if you start feeling worse
The goal is to be present and learning while using good judgment. Minor discomfort shouldn't keep you from your education, but serious symptoms require rest at home. When in doubt about whether your child should attend school, please consult with your healthcare provider rather than relying on the school nurse for attendance decisions.
