Welcome, Scott Elementary friends and families! My name is Cheryl Urban, and I am your school librarian. This is my 20th year in education and my third year as a librarian. To say I LOVE the adventure of being a librarian is quite possibly the understatement of the century ;).
I became a librarian because I want every student to know their story matters! I LOVE connecting students with stories, characters, information, and books about their interests...quite literally ALL THE THINGS that get them excited about reading and learning. I am also passionate about helping students make connections to our world while learning how to evaluate information in our ever-changing digital landscape.
I live with my husband, son, and two doggies in the neighborhood. I am also lucky enough to have my folks in McKinney! I am quite invested in Scott. Our son attended this fantastic school for his elementary years, so I spent LOTS of time here as a parent volunteer...some of THE BEST days!
A little more about my career in education...before joining the staff at Scott, I was a reading interventionist at Christie Elementary in FISD. Prior to joining Frisco, I taught in Plano ISD as a Literacy Instructional Coach, Dyslexia Interventionist, First Grade and Kindergarten classroom teacher. In between my time with Plano and Frisco, I thoroughly enjoyed life as a stay-at-home mom. I also had the opportunity to work as the marketing/social media coordinator for a successful local real estate team, who just also happened to be my folks! What a great experience to help with the family business, while enjoying my son's early years!
Scott is such a special place! We have a beautiful library…full of joy, engaging activities, great stories, and…possibilities! I am eager to partner with you in your child’s education to develop a love of reading.
