Cluster 1: Crafting True Stories

In this cluster, students will learn to:

• Write a personal narrative

• Introduce the characters and setting in an interesting way

• Use descriptive words to create images in the mind of the reader

• Develop characters with feelings and traits that are easily recognized

• Demonstrate use of spelling, grammar, and writing conventions

Ways to Support at Home

• Encourage frequent real-world, pencil-paper writing opportunities

• Practice keyboarding skills on a keyboard, not a touch screen

• Invite your child to tell them stories about small moments they remember. Have them dig deep into their memory to talk about details. Who was involved? What was the setting? What feelings came up? etc.
