Mindfulness is an important component of social emotional learning. It is a strategy that can be used to help reduce high levels of stress. Stress has been shown to decrease a child’s academic success, reduce the ability for focus and attention, and impact the ability to respond appropriately to emotions.
Mindfulness can help to bring calm from the inside out, give time to control emotions, and demonstrate social emotional maturity. The effects of mindfulness supports caring and healthy relationships.
The Parent Toolkit includes resources for children and caregivers on mindfulness along with suggestions for activities that can be done as a family. Caregivers can also access content and lessons found in the Educator Toolkit.
