This was a powerful week and one that speaks to why this has been such an engaging long-term project. Book Club groups are finishing the first book and we are beginning to reflect deeply on what we have learned through reading.
For a culminating assignment, students wrote a blog post after watching Grace Lin's TED talk on windows and mirrors. Below is the assignment:
In her
TED talk, Grace Lin talks about windows and mirrors. She tells us a book can act like a window and “show us the world.” Grace Lin also explains that a book can act like a mirror and “show us our reflection.” A book can show you a reflection of yourself.
How has the first Mock Newbery book you read both been a window and a mirror for you? What have you learned about the world and others by reading this book? What did you see about yourself in this book?
Students posted their blog posts to Seesaw.
