After reading our third book, we started thinking about nominations. We used Google Forms to have our students reflect on each book and provide evidence for their thinking for their vote.
After the initial vote via Google Forms, we had each student present for one minute on the book they voted as their favorite. This ensured that each student would be able to present--the same book was presented more than once, and it also meant that some books were eliminated from consideration.
When one minute student presentations ended, we had another vote. This is how we decided the winning book and the books we declared as honors.
Below are screenshots of our Google Forms. We used the Modified Mock Newbery Criteria as the basis for the Google Form. This worked well on many fronts. It allowed teachers to assess students' writing, sort information by book/class/student, and gave us an easy count for votes.
