Good Morning Farmhouse family! Welcome to Day 28, and the first day of Week 7!

Here's what is on the docket for today:

Before we begin our day, we found a couple of friends who wanted to say hello!

Video and Activity Invitation

Click on the videos below to see what we are up to today! Learn a little bit about the crab that's not really crabby. We invite you to create a sketch of it when you get a chance. Study its shape closely and observe all of the details when you do.

We also invite you to create an ocean in a bottle. If you would like, gather the items you will need over the next several days and create it whenever is best for you. There isn't much to it, so no need to worry about gathering a lot. Bring your creation to your group meeting on Wednesday or Thursday if you would like to share it with your friends!

Here's a recap:

Find a bottle with a cap or lid (empty mayo, pickle, jelly jar, empty water bottle or clear ketchup or salad dressing container, mason jar, etc.)

Fill approximately 1/3 of your bottle with water

Add shells or items you would like in your ocean (making sure they are small enough to fit!) and don't worry if you don't have any at home because it's just as fun without them.

Add several drops of food coloring if you have some. (Again, don't worry if you don't!)

Shake the bottle to disperse the food coloring

Top up the bottle with vegetable oil (or any oil you have) and watch your ocean in a bottle come to life!

Raymond made another jellyfish creation as well. He used a water bottle, a plastic bag, a rubber band, water, and food coloring. He wrapped the rubber band around the bag (making it like a little head) and then cut some strings (those are the tentacles) around the plastic bag head. Then he put it in the bottle and added water and a bit of food coloring.

Thank you for sharing this with us Raymond! Maybe some of your friends would like to try it out sometime!

Your friends, Sophie and Ari, have been planting things and observing them as they grow. Ari was able to transplant his into the garden last week. It looks like yours might be almost ready to transplant, too, Sophie.

Jacob has been doing the same. He did a bean experiment recently and would like to invite you to join him or, if you don't have beans, you can watch his progress along with us.

What is happening with your plantings, friends?

Deep Sea Creature Feature Submersible Field Trip

Mrs. Hemingway's niece, Annick, who worked in Roatan, Honduras as a submersible videographer, has offered to take us on a daily virtual field trip to see the magical creatures of the deep sea.

We hope you enjoy today's amazing video of a Swimming Sea Cucumber 1000-2000 ft! Warning - there's a little bit of potty talk with this one, but it's a pretty incredible fact!

She writes, "Wait for the fade! These little sea cucs were one of the most common sights on dives. Fun fact...sea cucumbers breathe through their bums and have respiratory structures (butt lungs!) that extract oxygen from the water. Their day-in and day-out revolves around ingesting the sea floor and pooping it right back out. This nutrient distribution process and removal of organic matter, while mundane, is pretty important to ecosystem health!"

Random Acts of Kindness

Today's act of kindness comes to you from broadcast journalist, Steve Hartman. He has been doing a free online class for kids every Monday at 2:00 pm that he began the week of Monday, March 23rd as a way to help during this time. Initially he was planning to do this for one week, but has since decided to continue with the show. Hartman calls it "Kindness 101" and hopefully you will find it inspiring. The past episodes are still available on the website if you would like to start from the beginning.

It is on the CBS News site, so please supervise your child in clicking on the class you want to watch because there are other news feeds on the side that are unrelated.
