Good Morning Farmhouse family! Welcome to Day 13!

Here's what is on the docket for today:

Video and Journalling Invitation

Yesterday, we talked about sea turtles. Today we thought you might explore some geography and science as you become turtle trackers. All over the world marine biologists and other volunteers are helping to develop a better understanding of what happens to sea turtles when they leave beaches after nesting. They attach tracking devices to the hard upper shell so they can document where they go.

Visit https://conserveturtles.org/sea-turtle-tracking-active-sea-turtles/ to visit the satellite trackers of loggerheads, green sea turtles, leatherbacks, and hawksbills.

We invite you to try setting up a nesting habitat for turtles by using a clear tub or container or an aluminum tray or sheet pan. The picture below is an example of someone who used oats for sand because they didn't have any and mint jelly for the ocean. Food is better saved for eating, so you can be creative and use other things you may have at home or make the items from paper or play dough or other materials. We can't wait to see what you come up with!

Jacob's family has been talking about pollution on a global scale. They watched an educational video about water pollution and discovered that even though the earth is made up of 70% water, only 1% is fresh drinkable water. They played out how pollution happens across all 5 world oceans by constructing a world model with cups and Kenetic sand. What materials do you have at home that you might be able to use to represent what we have been learning about?

We hear Cloe has been practicing her counting in creative ways, and during her hike last weekend at the Westport Farm, she practiced by keeping track of all the dandelions growing in the field. She got up to 53 and would have kept going had she not come upon a large cluster. Who else is counting?

Cloe and Wren also sent in some of their favorite book characters. Cloe created the cat in the hat and a creation inspired by a new book she read about a little bunny. And check out Wren's sock creation of her favorite book character, Angelina Ballerina. What else can you make with old socks?

Collaborative Online Alphabet

The only sneaky letters we have left to complete our collaborative alphabet are G, J, N, P, U, and W, so please be on the lookout! We're SO close!

We hear that Thomas is on a mission to find the letter G... GGGGGood luck, Thomas!

Mrs. Peckham's Book Share today may help give you a little extra inspiration. Keep your eyes open for it today in a separate email.

Random Acts of Kindness

This kindness rock was found in the middle of the woods while Mrs. Hemingway and her son, Noah, were hiking. It reminded us very much of your beautiful painted rocks with kind words that some of you created for the Friends Academy kindness garden in our woods last year.

We invite you to paint one at home if you have paints, or you can use markers or crayons instead. Leave it on a doorstep to surprise a neighbor or in a secret spot for someone to find. We're sure it will make them smile like it made us smile.

Send us a picture if you get a chance.

I Spy "Messages of Love"

This little message of love comes to you from the beach at DNRT's Wylde Reserve.

Until tomorrow,

Sending love from Mrs. Hemingway, Mrs. Peckham, and Mrs. Davis
