The Freeman High School Band Program currently has two (2) concert ensembles: The two (2) competing bands are Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band. Placement is audition-based, and preparation takes place both during class time, as well as after-school rehearsals. Both ensembles will prepare for several concerts throughout the concert season. Additionally, both ensembles will have the opportunity to participate in the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading (C & SR) evaluation. All band members have opportunities to participate in marching band, solo and ensemble Contest, All-Region/All-State Band competition.
Selection into this group is by audition, director recommendation, and a demonstration of academic proficiency. Members in this ensemble are required to participate in the All-Region Band process, UIL Marching Contest, UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest, UIL Concert and Sight-reading contest. Members of this group should expect one (1) section rehearsal and one (1) full band after school rehearsal each week beginning in late fall or early spring semester. Wind Ensemble will have numerous performances, on and off campus. For UIL C & SR activities, this group is designated the "Varsity" band.
Selection into this group is by audition. This group will participate in UIL Marching Contest, UIL Concert, and Sight-reading Contest. Members of this group are encouraged to participate in the TMEA Region Band process and UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest. Members of this group should expect one (1) section rehearsal and one (1) full band after school rehearsal each week beginning in late fall or early spring semester. This group will give a variety of performances. In UIL activities, this group will be designated as a "Sub Non-Varsity" band.
Students may be moved between ensembles during the semester based on performance and merit, as well as observation throughout the year.
