The Science of Reading
The Science of Reading: The US Department of Education has endorsed "The Science of Reading" in teaching literacy in all schools across the United States. These sessions will help educators in all subject areas understand what the latest research on what "The Science of Reading" is and is not., and strategies for using this research in the classroom. Follow up sessions will focus on vocabulary and culturally responsive teaching strategies, including supporting English Language Learners.

Empowering Inquiry: Using the Question Formulation Technique (QFT) with LLD and Special Education Resource Room Students
This workshop will introduce educators to the Question Formulation Technique (QFT)—a simple, adaptable strategy that encourages students to generate, improve, and use their own questions to drive learning. While widely used in general education settings, this session will focus on strategic adaptations for students with language learning delays (LLD) and those in resource room settings. (GRADES 9-12)
Best Practices for Student Engagement
This session will provide resources for teachers for best practices for student engagement, especially for multilingual learners and special education students. Teachers will learn research based practices, but also resources to help them actively engage students in their classrooms. (GRADES PREK-2, 3-5)
Be a Producer: Creating Videos with iMovie to Empower Student Learning
This workshop introduces educators to the fundamentals of using iMovie to create engaging, student-centered videos for unit celebrations, graduations, and other classroom milestones. In addition, the session will explore how video creation can serve as a meaningful learning tool during small group independent time. (GRADES PREK -2, 3-5)

General education teachers will explore misconceptions about inclusive settings and special education, gain knowledge of specific disability classifications and understand the importance of accommodations and modifications. They will also leave with concrete strategies to help students meet their goals. (GRADES 6-8)

This professional development session will explore how morphology—understanding prefixes, suffixes, and roots—supports students in decoding multisyllabic words. Participants will learn how integrating morphemes with syllable division boosts fluency, spelling, and vocabulary. Practical strategies and routines will be shared to implement this approach in daily instruction. (GRADES 3-5)

Grading For Equity
This session will use best practices based on the book Joe Feldmen, Grading for Equity helps us to explore why we as educators have grades, their purpose, recognizing what they show versus what they should show, questioning do teachers of the same content grade the same as well as should they. (GRADES 9-12)

This workshop will include strategies for support Multilingual Learners (formerly known as English Language Learners) in the general education classroom. We envision focussing on different topics throughout the academic year, with the help of additional colleagues from different content areas and the FHS ESL Department. (GRADES 9-12)
