Dear Student,
This is the time of the year that Franklin County High School recruits applicants for the Governor’s
Scholar Program! Governor’s Scholars are selected from across Kentucky and represent the diversity of the Commonwealth. The Governor’s Scholars Program is a five-week, residential program for outstanding Kentucky students completing their junior year of high school. If selected, you will spend five weeks on the campus of a Kentucky University. You would attend free of charge, needing only “pocket money” for personal and incidental expenses.
You must have a GPA of 3.0 or above. Additionally, you must have taken the ACT, SAT, or PSAT in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade. Our district has a limited number of applications that we can send to represent FCHS with the district committee. Once students turn in applications here, a faculty panel will read them and send our top applicants to represent FCHS. Our applications will be forwarded to the district level by the beginning of January for the selection of the students who will represent FCPS. Other criteria that is used for selection are difficulty of course load, extracurricular activities, service, honors, and personal/unique activities. Additional items for the application include an essay and teacher and community member recommendations.
If you are interested, please visit the GSP website at https://gsp.ky.gov/Pages/index.aspx and click on the tab "Applicants." The application MUST be completed online. I also suggest downloading the 2022 Helpful Hints: Best Practices and Important Information Packet. You must return the completed application no later than DECEMBER 17, 2021! The application process is time consuming. You want to make sure you thoroughly complete the application as this increases your likelihood that you will be selected.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Morgan Wiley
