Oscar-winning creative studio builds full-throttle VFX for The LEGO Agency’s latest commercial, where a high-speed race brings imagination to life.

The LEGO Agency, director David Mellor and production company HighlyUnlikely partnered with Framestore, the Oscar-winning creative studio, to provide a host of full-throttle VFX for its latest commercial Drive What You Love. Framestore delivered a range of environments, cars and effects for the playful thrill ride of an advert, which sees a LEGO builder’s imagination come to life for a high-speed race through their house. It's finally time to show some behind-the-scenes of our work for Marvel Studios' Avengers: Endgame. We were delighted to be part of the creative team, tackling key sequences and characters and ultimately delivering over 300 shots of super-powered VFX for this record-breaking movie - now officially the highest-grossing film of all time. Framestore Pictures and Director Murray Butler have produced and directed a whole charm of hummingbirds for the new commercial for Britvic-owned drinks brand Purdey’s. It produced the fully-CG photoreal film for advertising agency VCCP, which is an homage to nature and wildlife documentaries, reflecting the natural ingredients found in Purdey’s products. (2019)

For Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: Far From Home, we took on the dazzling ‘Illusion Battle,’ a mesmerizing sequence which sees Mysterio play on Peter’s very worst fears by conjuring psychedelic environments, freakish characters and a dramatic narrative. Working with Production VFX Supervisor Janek Sirrs, the team crafted the story and design of the sequence as well as creating the VFX. (2019)

Framestore completed over 250 shots for the opening act of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War. From the moment Bruce Banner crashes into Doctor Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum to the epic 'Race to Space' sequence, our varied and action-packed work saw us build the New York environment in CG, craft the Q-ship, and create CG friends old and new: Iron Man, Spider-Man, Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian. Slip on your duffle coat and help yourself to a generous spread of marmalade: Paddington is back. Having animated the bear for his first big-screen outing back in 2014, Framestore rejoined the team to bring the iconic character to cinemas once more in 2017's Paddington 2. (2018)

While working with Framestore on McDonald's 90 sec #ReindeerReady Christmas ad, Leo Burnett and McDonald's approached VFX supervisor Ben Cronin to direct a 10 second teaser film to be shown on social media channels and also on TV before #ReindeerReady was aired for the first time. Framestore storyboarded, produced, and shot the teaser, as well as handling all the necessary VFX.

We are thrilled to share our Academy Award and BAFTA winning work on Blade Runner 2049, for which our artists crafted concept artwork used in pre-production, and delivered nearly 300 shots of VFX work in post. Tasked with the creation of large-scale CG environment builds and some challenging animation work, Framestore teamed with VFX Supervisor John Nelson to pay homage to the original picture, whilst creating an atmospheric film of the future.

2017

Having previously contributed to the Harry Potter films, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was a great chance for Framestore to once more delve into the wizarding world of J.K. Rowling. Rocket returned home to Framestore for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, in which our team created the look and led the animation on the wise-cracking Raccoon and that of his new sidekick: the adorable, scene-stealing Baby Groot. Happy to be back in Gunn’s wacky universe, we collaborated with VFX Supervisor Christopher Townsend to deliver over 620 shots ranging from creature work, spaceships, ‘the best opening sequence in the world’ and an exhilarating space chase across the Galaxies.

The grand unveiling of Tate Modern’s striking and highly anticipated extension, the Switch House, incorporated the public opening of two major new interactive Bloomberg Connects installations, developed by Labs. The team created two 'Explore' spaces, combining state-of-the-art technology and Framestore Labs' signature creative flair, to allow Tate Modern’s 5 million annual visitors to experience Tate archive material in unexpected new ways. The project builds on the success of 2015’s Timeline of Modern Art, also by Framestore Labs: an innovative digital update of one of the gallery’s iconic features, designed to increase access to the arts through technology.

Framestore Labs designed and built a brand new interactive timeline for Tate Modern, which takes pride of place in the Clore Learning Centre on the gallery's Level 0. The Timeline of Modern Art is a significant update of the previous static installation in the gallery, allowing millions of visitors instant access to a vast number of artworks previously hidden in the Tate's impressive and rich archives.
