If I can’t participate in all the virtual meetings due to other classes I am attending, can I still apply?
You can always apply. We only worry that if you miss too many online training, mentoring and presentation sessions throughout the 8 weeks, you will not be able to complete your film and will miss out on valuable information.
Are we allowed to use RIGS from the internet?
We believe it's unlikely that most people will have a skilled rigger in their team so it would be acceptable to find rigs on the internet in that case.
I’ve never had a standard on-site job in a VFX company or related industry. I’m wondering if I’m still qualified to participate in the competition?
In order to qualify for the competition all members must be currently studying; or have graduated from University or college within the last 2 years. Each member should not have more than 8 months’ full time relevant work experience within the last 3 years or be currently employed in the visual effects or related industries. If you do not have on-site job experience in a VFX company but have graduated in the last two years or are currently studying, you are still qualified to participate in the competition.
Me and my team are interested in the competition and we are from India. Can we participate and is there any experience needed for the competition?
Unfortunately all teams must either have the right to work in the UK or Canada (depending on which competition you are entering) so I'm afraid that your team will not qualify. The reason we specify this is that we ultimately hope to be able to employ the winning participants but will not be able to sponsor work visas for them for entry level positions so they must already have the right to work in the country they are applying to.
It is written in the Launchpad document, that the competition will be entirely organized remotely and online. Does this mean that each participant must have a computer in order to produce a video?
Since the competition, team meetings, training and presentations with mentors will be done online due to Covid-19, it is therefore important to have a computer at your disposal in order to work from home.
I would like to participate but I don't have any teammates, is there something you can do to help me find teammates to apply for the competition?
We have released a Discord server where you can connect and find teammates for the competition. We also hope that people use it to share and create a community within. Here is the link: https://bit.ly/2WrVT32
If I build up a team of 4 and according to the rules, we are all eligible to participate in the competition and we did our application. Does that mean that my team will have a 100% chance to participate in the competition?
Not necessarily, we will have a panel of judges that will review the applications and we do have a limited number of teams that can participate in the competition. We will be in touch with all the teams to let them know if they are selected or not by June 19th.
"In order to qualify for the competition all members of your team must be currently studying; or have graduated from University or college within the last 2 years." My question is about one member of my team: she graduated University three years ago, but six months ago she attended a CGI master, therefore we would like to know if she will be able to join the team or not?
It is important to know whether they've had any work experience between graduating and attending the CGI master. If not (or not more than 8 months of relevant work) then it's still fine for them to apply.
