My name is Rayyan Yusuf Ahmed and I am currently a senior at Farmington High School. I am a three-sport varsity athlete for Riverhawks Football, Westling, and Track teams. In addition to my athletics, I also participate in the Latin club, Muslim Student Union, and Indian Student Union, where I get to have wonderful interactions with many students about their ideas.
My journey at FHS started when I transferred from Rocky Hill High School mid-Sophomore year. From my transfer from Rocky Hill, I brought along my intellectual curiosity for knowledge, my dedication to service, and my love for athletics. At FHS I have taken multiple AP/Honor level courses; out of all the courses I have taken, Honors Biology and AP Psychology sparked my desire for knowledge the most.
After taking AP Psychology and Honors Biology, I realized that I really enjoy learning about the human brain and the biological basis for the way the brain works. From my learning experience in AP Psychology, I noticed how little research has been done about the topic of homosexuality. This sparked my curiosity, and I started to wonder what I can do to learn more about this topic. After giving some thought into my curiosity, I recognized the underlying biological factors about homosexuality. This combination of two areas of knowledge which I loved, drove me to sign up for Healthcare 21. I chose Healthcare 21 as my capstone because I believed that the class would allow me to propose questions and help me research about the topic of homosexuality. This would make the requirement to take an aspire or capstone more resourceful, as I would be learning about something I am truly curious about.
