Growth Mindset

Growth Mindset

Farmington teachers and students strive to exhibit a growth mindset both at home and school. We believe that talents, whether academic or other, can be developed over time through dedication and hard work. Farmington students learn to persevere through life's challenges and use mistakes as learning opportunities. It's not just about effort. It's about putting in the right kind of effort. It's about staying positive when challenged. It's about believing that YOU CAN DO IT!

People with a fixed mindset say:

I can’t do this.

I’m not going to ask that question because everyone will think I am not smart.

I got it wrong so I am done with this problem.

What IF I fail?

Math is easy for her because she is smart.

It’s not my fault that I am not good at math.

People with a growth mindset say:

I don’t know this yet, but I am going to figure it out!

I want to be challenged so that I can learn more!

I am going to work hard at this because I CAN learn it.

What will I do WHEN I fail – I am going to try again.

This problem is tough, but I am going to get it!

I am going to take responsibility for my own learning – even when it gets tough.
