Newsletter - 4th April 2025
What a brilliant Spring Term we have had here at FPIS! It has been wonderful to see how much the children have enjoyed their projects this term and how well they have progressed. Their enthusiasm and love for learning is a joy to see!
On that note, our Year 1 and 2 Marketplace events this week provided an incredible showcase and celebration of the children's achievements this term. We are so proud of how passionately they were able to share the things they have been learning about with all those who came along. It was lovely to see so many parents, family members and friends join us. What an excellent ending!
Thank you to all those who attended our recent Parent's Meetings. We hope you found them informative and helpful. We always value the opportunity to meet with our parents to share progress, achievements and next steps in their child's learning journey. Thank you for your continued support.
With plants and animals all around gradually emerging from the depths of winter and the days getting longer, it really does feel as if spring has arrived at last. Hopefully, the weather will continue to be kind over the school holidays! If you are celebrating, we hope you have a very Happy Easter and we very much hope that everyone enjoys the break.
We look forward to welcoming our children and families back to school for the Summer Term on Tuesday 22nd April.
With very best wishes
Jane Indge
Head of School

Each week, during our Celebration Assembly, the attendance figures are shared. The class with the best attendance overall gets to look after SAM until the following week. SAM will be spending his Easter holiday in Willow Class as they had the highest attendance overall, with a figure of 99.3%! Well done everyone!
Our latest school attendance figures for each class are shown in the table. Our school attendance target is: 97%

BIG THANKS
Thank you to the FPSA who have bought these beautiful books for our library celebrating neurodiversity.
What are the UMBRELLAS all about?
As part of the PINS project, we were invited to take part in the ADHD Foundation's Umbrella Project 2025. The display of 25 brightly coloured umbrellas is designed to represent the one in five of us who have a neurodevelopmental condition, such as ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia or Tourette’s syndrome. These conditions fall under the umbrella term of neurodiversity. Teachers have been sharing books about neurodiversity with the children and they have all had an assembly about the Umbrella Project.

We were all a little redder and a bit sillier than usual on Red Nose Day - all in aid of Comic Relief, of course.
Thank you to our School Council for organising our Red Nose sales once again this year. We sold 210 noses in total, which is fantastic!
In total our FPPF JustGiving fundraising page has raised an impressive £1070. Thank you to everyone for your support!
We were very proud to be supporting Alexander Divine's Big Chick Knit this year. Our thanks to Miss Aggarwal, Miss Evmorfopoulos and our School Council for helping to organise this fundraising event (see more below).
We are waiting to hear how many chicks were sold in total and the amount of money we have raised together as a school community, so will update as soon as we hear.
The Early Years children have been thoroughly enjoying their weekly Friday afternoon reading sessions with the FPJS year 6 children. It is so lovely to see the youngest and oldest sharing a pure joy for reading in the sunshine! :)
Wow, what a busy term our Bumblebee, Caterpillar, and Dragonfly children have had! We have enjoyed learning about the life-cycle of a chick. The children have been observing them every day and they were able to notice and talk about the changes they saw. All of our Early Years children had the opportunity to hold one of our chirpy chicks and even gave them a name! They learned about the characteristics of a chick, how to care for them, and discovered how they grow and develop. We have all thoroughly enjoyed hatching chicks at school. Our little chicks have now returned to the farm, where they will have more space to continue growing into hens and roosters! Following this, the children have been busy creating lovely observational drawings of our chicks during their busy learning sessions and visiting our school guinea pigs and goats! :-)
During Discovery RE, we have been learning about different celebrations. Mrs. Bharj (Navraj's mum) was welcomed in to Early Years talk to all of the children about the Sikh celebration 'Vaisakhi'. The children loved watching an educational video of Navraj at the Gurdwara that he had created with his family - some children even recognised the Gurdwara! Navraj and his Mum shared their own experiences and answered the children's respectable questions. It’s always wonderful to see the children showing an interest and respect for all the different cultures and religions in our school.
In maths, we have been learning about doubles and odd and even numbers. The children have been using their fingers to represent double numbers, impressing us with their excellent stem sentences. For example, one child said, "Four is made of two and two. Two and two make four." We have also been playing fun sorting games with various objects from around the classroom, such as spoons! The children guessed how the objects were sorted and then had a go at sorting them themselves, choosing to sort by colour, size, material, and shape. This week, we explored three-dimensional shapes. Some children created fantastic models, while others chose to print with the shapes. We were so impressed with the mathematical language used to describe their creations.
Our Bumblebees, Caterpillars, and Dragonflies have been busy learning about the Easter story, singing Easter songs and creating Easter cards to take home! The children are excited to explore Easter and can't wait to share the fun ways they celebrate this special holiday. We have all been very impressed with the children's passionate singing and actions to the song "Spring Chicken" which we have linked the song below if you'd like a home performance! Feel free to share their super singing with us on Seesaw :-)

The children have had SO much fun learning 'All About Animals' over the past few months and we can't wait to begin exploring our new project next term on 'Journeys!'
Beth Gomm from Christian Connections in School came to visit KS1 and tell us all about Easter. The children loved hearing about The Easter Story and enjoyed understanding the meaning behind Easter and why it is celebrated.
A few weeks ago Year 1 received a special visit from Paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service. They began by quizzing us about our knowledge of Paramedics and The Ambulance Service and they were so impressed with how much we knew! Next they demonstrated how they use their special equipment, such as a heart rate monitor, a neck brace, a box splint, a hi-vis jacket and helmet. In preparation for the visit Year 1 had worked really hard thinking about and writing appropriate questions to ask them and it was lovely having the opportunity to ask those questions to real life Paramedics! We are very grateful for their time and for all of the awe-inspiring work that they do!
Year 1 have continued their learning about the life of Mary Seacole. They got to explore some of the ingredients that Mary used in her herbal remedies such as okra, lemon grass, ginger, aloe vera and lemons. They enjoyed smelling, touching and understanding more about some of the key ingredients that Mary used to help cure soldiers in the past.
We have also been very busy planning, creating and improving our Emergency! Marketplace stalls. We decided what we wanted to focus on and worked in groups to develop our ideas. The children did an excellent job of explaining their knowledge to the grown ups and sharing their learning from across the term. We hope you enjoyed your visit and learnt something new too!
Year 1 also enjoyed taking part in tennis workshops! It was great learning different drills to warm up and help with our foot work. We then practised some different skills using rackets and balls. We had lots of fun and some of us are even thinking of playing some more tennis again!
In maths we have had fun counting to and from 50. We have been thinking about two-digit numbers and splitting them into tens and ones. We have also been creating our own number lines, thinking carefully about the start point, end point and mid-point. We even went outside to create our own number lines with chalk! Lastly, we have been using different words to describe the position of objects and the direction of turns we make. We have had great fun challenging each other with different turns and positions to make with our bodies.
We have been busy finishing our project 'Fire, Fire!' and have been finalising some of the last steps of our lanyards. This has included putting all of our sewing skills together to make our very own scent bags. We are sure that you have all been enjoying the wonderful fragrance of these at home! :-) It has been a great way of us using our newly learnt sewing skills whilst also learning about the purpose of a scent bag in 1666. We have also been busy representing all of the facts we have learnt about a city and the key features of a city found in London. Consolidating all of our knowledge we worked in teams to represent the city of London in lots of creative ways.
In Maths we have been busy learning all about capacity and have loved using water to support our exploration and understanding.
Finally we have been very busy planning our marketplace stalls and working collaboratively to bring to life our plans!
On Wednesday we held our Marketplace showcasing our learning from our Spring project 'Fire, Fire!'. The children presented their Sticky Knowledge learning with confidence and enthusiasum.
Some of the amazing stalls included; a Science stall including discussions around the Great Plague of 1665 which included a germ experiment to teach our grown-ups how germs can spread, sewing and creating scent bags, Samuel Pepys, the Monument, Tower Bridge, London Landmarks in 2024, how London has changed since 1666, firefighting and how this has changed, spot the difference between the old and new St. Paul's Cathedral, our very own art gallery, trying ship's biscuits and finally Pudding Lane was also brought to life which included Thomas Farriner's bakery!
Thank you very much for all of your support and the lovely feedback shared on the proud clouds.
We are all extremely proud of the Year 2 children and we are sure that you are too!
Last Thursday Beth Gomm from Christian Connections in School came to visit each year 2 class to run a question and answer session about why Easter is important to her. The children came up with some brilliant and insightful questions which has helped them think deeply about our key question for RE this half term: 'How important is it to Christians that Jesus came back to life after his crucifixion?'. Thank you to Beth for coming in to support us in exploring this important event in the Christian calendar.
Hazel Class was lucky to participate in the School Games Fencing Festival at Altwood Senior School. The children joined some other schools to compete in a number of games. They warmed up with a game of Avoid the Sword then broke off into teams. They then completed a carousel of activities supported by some Altwood students and the Little Musketeers coaches. They learnt the correct form to begin fencing and had loads of fun learning to advance and retreat. They even got to have some individual matches against their friends wearing fencing helmets and some practice swords. Well done to Emma Fitzgerald for organising such a successful event. We definitely have some superb fencers in Hazel Class.
We were very pleased to receive a visit from Perform on Friday 4th April. The children had a wonderful time exploring the theme of Under The Sea and using drama, dance and singing to help develop their confidence, concentration and social skills.
To complement the workshop, there is a free educational app for iPhones and iPads based around the theme of Under The Sea. It contains fun games, creative tasks and videos of the themed songs and dances. Click here to download it free or here to find out more about the Under The Sea theme.

Our School Council team have had a SUPER busy half term!
We started off selling Red Noses, helping to raise money for Comic Relief. The sales were very popular and we had lots of fun discovering which noses everyone had inside their box!
We then helped to sell chicks and bunnies to raise money for the Alexander Devine Children's Hospice. We loved seeing how unique all the hand knitted chicks and bunnies were with hidden creme eggs inside! We were excellent mathematicians helping people with their change and encouraging others to buy a little Easter gift for someone special. Thank you to everyone who helped support this great charity!
This month, the Eco Club was delighted to check on the progress of our winter wheat crop! With the lovely warm spring weather, we were all amazed at how much it had grown since our last check.
We were thrilled to see that the tallest shoot had already reached an impressive 36.5cm. It’s fantastic to witness its steady growth, and we can’t wait to see how it flourishes over the next couple of months! Stay tuned for more updates!
Turning our attention to energy use in the school, our Eco representatives took a walk around the building to check if any lights had been left on in empty classrooms. We were surprised to find that a few rooms still had their lights on with no one inside! Every small action counts, and leaving lights on when they aren’t needed wastes energy that we can easily save.
To help tackle this issue, we used our last meeting to design and decorate bright, eye-catching posters encouraging everyone to switch off the lights when they leave. These posters have now been placed around classrooms as a friendly reminder to make the most of natural daylight and conserve energy.
By reducing our energy consumption, we can also lower our school's carbon footprint and do our part to protect our planet’s precious resources!
Let’s keep working together to make our school a greener, more eco-friendly place!
In nurture, the children have had a fun few weeks exploring our senses. We played a memory game, starting with a tray of 10 items, covering them and removing one item, then trying to work out which one had gone. We also put items like Lego, a coin, a spoon and pencil in a covered tub and had to work out what they were just by feeling them. Finally using our sense of smell and taste, we had to work out crisp flavours, I think this one was our favourite activity.
As Easter is fast approaching we have made some bunny ear headbands and painted some Easter bunnies. we finished our term with an Easter treat of hot cross buns and a film.
The Nurture team would like to wish our children and their families a very happy Easter.
It was the last session for our very first cohort of Forest School participants this week, as their two-term programme came to an end. As well as learning new skills and finding out more about our wonderful woodland environment, we have also made a good start with implementing some of the actions set out within our 3-year Woodland Management Plan. In particular, we have been pleased to see that the hedgerows planted during the past few weeks have already begun to grow - with the first leaves beginning to emerge.
Well done to all our children who have participated so enthusiastically during the sessions - whatever the weather!
We are looking forward to welcoming and establishing our new Forest School group next term!
We love finding out about and celebrating our children's achievements outside of school!
If your child has an achievement that they are very proud of and would like to share with us all, they will get the opportunity to do so during our Celebration Assembly on a Friday.
