What time does school finish?
Timetabled lessons finish at 2.50pm, this doesn't have to be the end of the day though. We have enrichment sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 2.50pm - 3.30pm that you can attend. These sessions enhance your experience at school.
This is also the time that detentions are held. A C4a is 20 minutes so you would leave at 3.10pm, a C4b is 40 minutes so you would leave at 3.30pm and if you have a C5a or C5b you will be in the Reflection room until 3.30pm.
What is my child's uniform hasn't arrived before school starts back?
Please make sure you put your order in to Trutex by the deadline date and collect from school. If there is an item missing please make sure your child comes into school in the uniform they have and we will help you sort the rest from there.
What should I bring on their first day?
They will need a bag and your basic equipment (pen, pencil, ruler, rubber in a pencil case), I would suggest they bring their PE kit and trainers too.
Can I bring my mobile phone to school?
Yes, although all you must turn your phone off and place it in your bag before you cross the purple line. If a mobile phone is seen or heard on school site we will confiscate it and a parent/carer (on our records for you) will have to collect it. We will not give it back to you.
What if I need to get in touch with my child in an emergency?
Ring the school on 01724 708080 and we will get the information to your child. If your child needs to get in touch with you a call can also be made from the school's phone.
What are the dinner arrangements?
There are 3 separate dinner sittings of 30 minutes. All Year 7 students have their lunch at 12.50pm. We use a cashless payment system where parents/carers top up online for students to spend in school.
What type of food is available and what do I do if my child has a food allergy?
There are 4 different options for your lunch. There is a sandwich bar, a snack bar (jacket potatoes, pizza and wraps), a pasta and sauce bar and then a counter serving hot food. At break there are a range of snacks such as bacon sandwiches, toast, mini pizza and bagels and before school, we offer a free breakfast to all students including bagels and cereals. Water is available from the water fountain, we have small paper cups or you could bring a bottle to refill.
If your child has a food allergy it is very important that you tell us so we can record this on the correct system to ensure your child is safe.
How many students are in the school?
There are around 150 students in each year group so in total that is a maximum of 750 students. We have Year 7 - 11 only.
Will I get lost?
You will have a tour of the building on your first day and can look where your classrooms will be. The classrooms are arranged depending on the subject area they are in. If you need to know where a particular room is, just ask- we are a friendly bunch and will be happy to take you to where you need to be.
Do I have assembly?
You will have an assembly once per week with your year group. Year 7 assemblies currently take place on Friday mornings. The assembly is held in the academy hall on the ground floor.
Will I have more than one teacher?
Yes, you will have a number of different teachers. This is because each teacher is a specialist in the subject that they teach.
What is a PD group?
PD stands for Personal Development. All students are allocated a PD group with other students in their year group. PD groups are together for the first 30 minutes of the school day, from 8.25am-8.55am. During PD, students will cover Personal Development topics, study Careers, explore Votes for Schools, participate in Outwood Reads and experience a variety of assemblies.
