Project

Shape Still life

This is my 4D still life drawing. I used graphite pencils and worked on my shading, blending, and erasing. I learned a lot from this work. I have always struggled with 3D objects and shading so working on this piece was important for me. Also, I learned a lot of new techniques and a lot about how I need to approach some of my work. The hardest part for me was getting the shape of the object without just drawing the lines. My favorite part of this piece is my ball and the object below it. these are the two which took me the longest and I learned the most from.

Tiny Painting

This is my tiny painting of a red balloon dog. I used acrylic paint and worked on learning how to shade, blend, place highlights, and mix colors using paint on canvas. Giving the dog a 3D shape using paint is much harder then using graphite pencils. I learned new techniques about mixing colors to give the effect that I need. The hardest part in my opinion why trying to find a light source because of the mirror effect of the dog. Also, finding a way to paint the positioning of the dog. My favorite part is finding and mixing the colors.

Mixed Media Project

What motivated me to make this piece was poverty around the world and how many people ignore how large of an issue poverty is. I also in this piece wanted to show the different people poverty affects and how children are heavily affected by poverty. I used metal, wax, acrylic paint, photos, and text from online news papers. I wanted the people to be in shopping windows and for the store to be closing down due to lack of attention. This piece gave me the chance to really experiment with different mediums and learn how to use them. Also, this gave me a chance to continue to work with paint. The hardest part in my opinion was getting the wax to look how I wanted and making sure the images under the wax did not move. Also, I had to redo many parts of this piece as I went which helped me evaluate my work as I went. This is one of the pieces I am most proud because of how much work I put into it.

Personal

For this piece I was able to work with paint and metal which have been my two favorite mediums this year. I found it very hard to get my giraffe correct and not have the glitter in the wrong places. Also, I loved being able to work with colors that I have not been able to use in the past. Cutting metal has been something I have been working on this semester and I feel as though this piece really showcases how much I have improved.
