Spring Flowers

May 2019

For these images I wanted to focus on the structure of house. I took images all around this building to be able to show the balance of the building. I like to keep the green and flowers in the photos because I think it adds some color to the white and navy building. I think I liked The Roots so much for my architecture images because of the windows in the front. I look for balance within the object when taking photos of buildings. Additionally the green of the trees pop in front of the white building, yet it seems to frame the door in the first image. In the second, getting it from and angle shows off the flowers around the house more. These flowers help to frame the white house and help it pop off the page.

When taking this photos I focused on keeping my camera as centered as possible. For the first picture I positioned myself in the center of the house and close enough to only include the four windows and the door. I wanted to keep the photo as balanced with as little unbalanced objects as I could. At first I did not like having the trees coming down the image and worked hard to avoid them. Yet, after editing I found that having this unbalanced element made the balance of the house more apparent. For the second image I walked around the house to try and get the best angle for the door and windows. I wanted to make the columns the center piece of the image. I moved the camera up and down to get different heights. Finally I lined my camera up so that only the top of the flowers were in the image. I felt as though these helped the image be more framed and added definition and a new topic to the image.

When going to take photographs of architecture I went to William Christen-berry for inspiration. His images are all of buildings with lots of color and a clear focus of the building. His images normally include close ups of buildings with little else going on, but almost always a pop of color. This is why I included the flowers in all of my images of The Roots it gave my pictures the color which they needed. I think that these images should show off organization and balance. The feeling which I got from William Christen-berry's work was one of happiness which I feel like comes mostly from the balance and the colors included. These photos I want to show off spring and the feelings which comes with spring.
