Performance Events are very much performance and acting-based. They usually involve reading and intepreting written literature, and sometimes do not even involve memorizing lines. However, some of them are very much like acting in a Play.
Storytelling is the performance of a Children's Story, typically aimed at Children aged Pre-K to 2nd Grade. It must be memorized, performed sitting down, last up to 8 minutes, and be engaging and appropriate for small children.
Prose Reading involves the performed reading of an selection of Prose from Literature. It should not be memorized, and should be read from a prepared binder. Performances should be engaging and last up to 8 minutes.
Poetry Reading involves the performed reading of an selection of Poetry, in a single poem, or a curated selection of themed poems. It should not be memorized, and should be read from a prepared binder. Performances should be engaging and last up to 8 minutes.
Dramatic Intepretation involves performing a 10 minute piece, from literature or Theatre, by memory, that is Dramatic in Nature.
Humorous Interpretation involves performing a 10 minute piece, from literature or Theatre, by memory that is FUNNY!
Duet Acting involves performing a 10 minute short play, by memory, with a partner. Unlike other performance events, it can involve blocking.
Duo Interpretation is more stylized, and performed more like you are simply speaking the lines to the audience rather than blocking realistically.
Debate Events are all centered around Public Speaking. Each one involves the creation of the content you will be speaking, and the engaging delivery of that Speech to the Audience in a Public Speaking setting.
Radio Speaking involves the creation of EXACTLY 5 minutes of Radio News Content, presented in a flawless Radio Announcer Voice.
Informative Speaking involves the writing and Presentation of an original, 10 minute Informative speech.
Original Oratory involves the writing and Presentation of an original, 10 minute Persuasive speech.
US Extemporaneous Speaking involves giving a speech with little preparation. To compete, you have to create a folder of resources on current events in the United States, and be ready to give a speech on some kind of related topic in 30 minutes.
International Extemporaneous Speaking involves giving a speech with little preparation. To compete, you have to create a folder of resources on current events around the world, and be ready to give a speech on some kind of related topic in 30 minutes.
Public Forum is a 2 member Team speaking against another 2 member Team, debating a Question of Fact Topic for the month. It involves Research to prepare an opening speech, and understanding the topic well enough to argue against your opponents evidence and reasoning.
Lincoln-Douglas is a 1 against 1 competition, debating a Question of Value Topic for the month. It involves Research, preparing an opening case, and understanding not just the factual but the philosophical implications of the topic.
