MICHIGAN'S CAREER ZONES

The State of Michigan/Michigan Department of Education has identified six career zones designed to cover all career opportunities. By grouping all careers in zones, it provides for those with similar characteristics to be grouped together. Each career within a career zone requires much of the same knowledge, skills, and abilities. Determine which career zone you envision yourself in to help narrow your search.

1) Arts and Communications

Career related to the humanities and to the performing, visual, literary and media arts.

2) Engineering/Manufacturing and Industrial Technology

Careers related to the technologies necessary to design, develop, install or maintain physical systems.

3) Health Sciences

Careers related to the promotion of health as well as the treatment of injuries, conditions and disease.

4) Human Services

Careers in early childhood, civil service, education, hospitality, and social services.

5) Business Management, Marketing, and Technology

Careers related to all aspects of business including accounting, business administration, finance, information processing, and marketing.

6) Natural Resources and Agriscience

Careers related to natural resources, agriculture and the environment
