Your Freshers' Fair stall is often the first physical touchpoint for new students. With these tips, strategies and best practices you can make it welcoming, efficient, and memorable.
Your team is your first impression! Ensure volunteers are enthusiastic, well-briefed, and actively engaging students, offering freebies and inviting them to learn more. A genuine smile can ease nerves, invite conversation, and make someone feel welcome – especially during Freshers' Week when many students are new, anxious, or unsure.
Offer generous freebies like tea, coffee, or snacks. This cultivates a warm atmosphere and draws students to your stall, making them feel instantly welcome. Make sure your team doesn't overcrowd the table, keeping it clear, clean, and engaging.
Create an eye-catching display with bright banners and clear ISoc branding. Utilize QR codes for seamless sign-ups and information sharing, making it easy for students to connect. Use technology (iPads/tablets) to ensure poor handwriting doesn't ruin an email address and saves you time later!
Showcase branded ISoc merchandise like hoodies, tote bags, or stickers. These items not only promote your ISoc but also serve as appealing freebies and conversation starters. Coordinated outfits for your team can provide instant recognition.

Your Freshers' stall is also a prime opportunity for dawah. Be prepared to share the beauty of Islam with curious students.
Ensure your volunteers are comfortable and knowledgeable enough to answer basic questions or direct students to appropriate resources/committee members. Consider offering a short briefing or FAQ sheet beforehand to equip volunteers with talking points and awareness of common queries. Having Islamic literature on hand can make people feel encouraged to explore or ask questions about Islam, and leave with a positive impression of both Islam and ISocs.
A warm, open, and well-prepared environment can leave a lasting impact and foster meaningful conversations.
📣 ISoc's! Keep Islamic literature at your stall - anyone may ask about Islam! One booklet can change a life!
Being approachable at your stall is key – and one of the simplest, most powerful ways is by smiling. The Prophet ﷺ was known for his warmth and kindness. A genuine smile can ease nerves, invite conversation, and make someone feel welcome – especially during Freshers' Week when many students are anxious or unsure. So smile, offer Salam, and look out for one another. Don’t overlook someone just because they seem shy or quiet; your warmth might be exactly what they need to feel seen, supported and connected. So, as you stand at your ISoc stall, remember:
your smile might be someone’s first experience of the mercy, kindness, and beauty of Islam.
