22nd-28th Sept: 'Maths Week Scotland' and 'DIGITAL WEEK'
Who?
We are a small primary school of 101 pupils and 29 nursery children at the heart of our local community. While there has been a primary school serving Culbokie village and the surrounding area since the 1800s, the current building is relatively new, having only been opened in 2007. It comprises five classrooms, a nursery room, gym hall, canteen, nurture room, community room and a large open area with an inviting library. Our playground has a large grass playing field and a tarmac with exciting games and equipment for children to access during break times. We love it!
Where?
Maybe we are biased, but we believe our school is perfectly located, set in the village of Culbokie in the beautiful Black Isle, within a historic farming community. We benefit from supportive links with our local secondary, Fortrose Academy, as well as other primaries in our ASG. Our nearest town is Dingwall, on the other side of the Cromarty Firth and the city of Inverness is not too far away. We benefit from the use of our natural surroundings, from the woods behind the school to Rosemarkie Beach a few miles from here. We like nothing more than to be outside in the fresh air when weather permits!
What? Why?
We feel that learning should be fun, relevant and purposeful so we aim to provide a broad but thorough education that prepares children for learning, life and work. We value being part of our community, which is a partnership of mutual support. It is important for us to enable children to chase and achieve their dreams without setting limits. The red kite, a bird of prey often seen traversing the open skies above us, is our school emblem and symbolic of this vision to 'aspire, fly high'.
In consultation with children, staff, parents and carers, we have distilled our values into THE FOLLOWING six key themes which define our culture:
RESPECT ACHIEVEMENT KINDNESS CREATIVITY HONESTY FUN
How?
Last year, our Pupil Council redesigned the 'school rules' to reflect our vision for positive behaviour and attitudes at Culbokie Primary School in 2022/23. Following this, they shared it with staff and ratified it with all children in the school. They have decided to call it the 'Culbokie Code'. This is how we do things here and this is how we learn!
