Whitlow Pathways Team
At Whitlow Elementary, our Pathways Team provides a dynamic, vertically aligned STEM experience that begins in kindergarten and extends through fifth grade, intentionally preparing students for continued success in middle and high school CTAE pathways. Through strong collaboration across Art, Music, Physical Education, Media Productions, STEM, Science, and our Media Center’s Discovery Den (makerspace), we create an integrated learning environment where innovation, creativity, and critical thinking thrive.
Our approach emphasizes hands-on, inquiry-based learning grounded in the engineering design and problem-solving process. Students actively engage in questioning, designing, testing, revising, and reflecting while documenting their thinking in STEM journals. This intentional focus on written reflection strengthens both technical understanding and communication skills.
Through authentic learning experiences, including field trips and real-world applications, students see meaningful connections between classroom learning and future career pathways. In fourth and fifth grade, students further personalize their learning by selecting focused areas of interest—such as photography, videography, yearbook production, podcasting, and digital design in Media Productions—fostering ownership, exploration, and career awareness at an early age.
Our collaborative model ensures that STEM is not confined to one classroom, but woven throughout the school culture. Together, the Whitlow Pathways Team cultivates confident problem solvers, creative thinkers, and future-ready learners prepared to excel in the next phase of their academic journey.
