VCMS administration community message
Hello Vickery Creek Families,
We trust this message finds everyone well and gearing up for Spring Break and some well-deserved R&R. It is hard to believe we are rapidly closing in on the end of the 25-26 school year. We are looking forward to some of the fun and exciting events we have planned for our Vipers to help us finish the year on a strong and positive note. Please see the information below as it contains both school-wide & grade level specific information. Be sure to mark your calendars!
SCHOOL-WIDE
GA Milestone Testing: April 27 - May 8 - GA Milestones will be administered between Monday, April 27 - Friday, May 8. We strongly encourage families to prioritize student attendance during the GA Milestone window. 6th & 7th Grade Students will take Milestones in Math & ELA the week of April 27. 8th Grade students will take Milestones in Math, ELA, Physical Science, GA Studies the week of April 27 & Algebra I the week of May 4. Milestone Make-Ups will take place the week of May 4. Additional details will be shared upon our return from Spring Break.
VCMS Final Exams: May 18-20 - Final Exams will be administered between Monday, May 18 - Wednesday, May 20. We strongly encourage families to prioritize student attendance during the Final Exam window. Final Exam make-ups will take place starting May 20(in the afternoon) through May 22. Additional make-up opportunities will be provided on July 20 & 21. After July 21, final exam make-up opportunities will no longer be available. Any exam marked as missing will remain a zero. Additional details will be shared as we get closer to the Final Exam window.
LAST CHANCE - Please remind your student(s) to check the Lost & Found this week. All unclaimed items will be donated over Spring Break.

8th Grade Awards Night: Tuesday, May 12 - 6:00pm VCMS Gym - Students being recognized in the following areas (4Rs, Viper Award, All As - year long) will receive an invitation to attend Awards night.
8th Grade Field Trip: Thursday, May 14 - 8th grade students will be going to Six Flags.
8th Grade Picnic: Friday, May 15 @ VCMS - 8th graders enjoy this time honored tradition of fun, food and friends to close out their time as Vipers at VCMS.
8th Grade Chromebook Collection: Wednesday, May 20 - 8th graders will turn their Chromebook before the end of the school year.

RISING 6th GRADE (current 5th graders) Events
Viperpalooza: Tuesday, April 21 - 6:00-7:30pm - Families with rising 6th graders (26-27 SY) will have an opportunity learn all about VCMS and the Middle School experience
5th Grade Tours: Week of May 11 - Rising 6th graders from our feeder Elementary Schools will visit VCMS during the day and get to see middle school in action! Parents are not permitted to attend.
Viper Camp: Monday, August 3 - 6th Grade Open House - Our newest Vipers will have an opportunity to meet teachers, learn their schedule and make new friends!

VCMS Math Team
The VCMS Math Team wrapped up their own version of March Madness by competing in four MathLeague and MathCounts competitions this month. It has been a wonderful experience collaborating with all the FCS math team coaches under the leadership of Dr. Brian Lack, and we extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our mathlete parents for their constant encouragement and support!
Congratulations to all of our VCMS Mathletes for representing our school at the county, district, and state levels with hard work and enthusiasm! A special recognition goes to the following students for advancing to the next levels of competition and performing at such high levels: Shaaz P. S., Avyukth R. S., Sujay K., Driaan M. J., & Sarvin K. P. We are so proud of their hard work, dedication, and outstanding achievement! Our final competitions will take place in May, and we look forward to sharing more great news soon!

The Viper Golf and Track and Field Teams are off to a great start! Our Viper golfers have been hitting the links at Polo, Olde Atlanta, Iron Horse and also Countryland! The Viper Track and Field Team has also been busy running, jumping and throwing! Come out and see your Vipers in action before the seasons end! GO VIPERS!

Brochure Gallery Walk
Mrs. Seymour's 8th grade students participated in a fun research project in the Media Center's Chrome lab this Friday, April 3! Students had to research their favorite candy/cookie/snack and develop a brochure. Then, students were able to conduct a gallery walk through the "exhibits" to discuss their projects!
Standards:
T.RA.1a. I can create a clear thesis statement and provide strong supporting details
T.RA.1.c I can provide elaborate details using sensory language and strong evidence
T.RA.2.a. I can explain how the structure of my writing contributes to my purpose of writing
L.GC.2b. I can use precise and strong vocabulary, consistent verb voice, and vary my sentence structure.
Collection Maintenance
Please touch base with your kids to see if they owe any outstanding library books or fines for lost or damaged items. If you are unable to locate your library items, please see Ms. Tafuto in the media center.
