Historical Context
The United States was originally inhabited by Native Americans who lived in the territory for hundreds of years, until the immigration of European families and individuals back in the early 1500s to escape persecutions for their beliefs. They wanted to go to a place where they could practice freedom of speech, religion, and a different type of government away from abuse, and free of crime.
Citizens from all over the world, especially from countries who are living with corrupt governments that have unjust treatment, and crimes by the police that go unpunished, live south of the border, and are desperate to migrate because of the lack of jobs and opportunities for the young generations.
As years go on immigration has changed as we see different groups of people flee to America for opportunities, but their reasons for migrating are the same. An example of this is the border crisis between the U.S. and Mexico. As of September 24, 2023, 35,289 immigrants are reported to be held in ICE detention centers, and these numbers are expected to be rising
