Themes of Catholic
Social Teaching

Theme 1: Life and Dignity of the Human Person

According to Catholic Social Teachings about life and the dignity of a human person, people are more valuable than objects and every individual is important. The Catholic Church establishes that everyone's dignity should be respected and that differences in race, religion, ability, place of birth, or residency cannot be used to support the privileges of some over the rights of others. A scripture passage from Romans chapter 12 verse 9 is shared under the social teaching of life and dignity of a human person and it says, “Love one another, contribute, to the needs of others, live peaceably with all” (Rom 12:9). Catholic Social Teaching of life and the dignity of a human person guides us on how to treat newcomers into the country, by respecting their dignity because they are human just like the rest of us. No matter what a person looks like, Catholic Social Teaching teaches us to make sure everyone lives with dignity because we were all born with the same dignity.

Theme 2: Solidarity

Solidarity promotes justice and peace, regardless of our differences in ideology, race, nation, or ethnicity, we are all members of the same human family.  To work for justice we can bring awareness to the topic of immigration, to help make change in the world, as it was taught by Pope Paul VI if you want peace, you have to work for justice.  The gospel calls us to be peacemakers and promote peace in a world filled with violence and conflict.
