Application for the 1st Abe Shinzo Award
The Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) is a diplomatic initiative introduced by former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo in August 2016.
It aims to enhance regional connectivity and contribute to global peace and prosperity by realizing a free and open order in the Indo-Pacific region, grounded in shared values and principles – most notably the rule of law among nations. Amid a complex and uncertain global environment, the FOIP has influenced numerous countries and regions.
The Abe Shinzo Award honors young individuals for outstanding research, innovative ideas, and impactful activities that advance the development of FOIP. The award is intended to support the ongoing efforts of these individuals.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all applicants for the many submissions received from 17 countries and regions for The Abe Shinzo Award.Following a rigorous review by the Selection Committee, six papers were selected as “FOIP+ Featured Papers” from among the finalists.
From these six papers, the Selection Committee has further selected the recipients of The Abe Shinzo Award and the FOIP+ Honorable Mention. The award recipients and their winning papers will be officially announced at FOIP+ Dialogue 2026 on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
