Flexible Pathways Academy

Enosburg Falls High School values student centered learning that focuses on the collection of evidence toward proficiency. There has been student interest in graduating with proficiencies rather than credits. As a result, we are piloting the idea of a school within a school which would run parallel to our current traditional high school model. Students would be able to graduate with proficiencies instead of credits and grades. Students could continue to take traditional classes, in which case they would use the work from their classes to develop evidence. Students could also break the traditional schedule and use internships, independent studies, and work experience to gather evidence. We have been working with the Mastery Transcript Consortium, an organization that is developing a digital transcript that shows growth and progress visually and also stores evidence. The Mastery Transcript Consortium has partnered with 300 high schools and is working with colleges to develop a transcript that is readable for colleges, but highlights learning and growth instead of scores or grades. This Mastery Transcript will co-exist with the student’s Powerschool Transcript until the student’s senior year, at which point they will decide which transcript to send to colleges. Flexible Pathways Academy is an option for graduating using a set of professionally developed proficiencies, or mastery credits.
