My name is Shannon Bailes and I am excited to be the Library Media Specialist at Riverview Elementary School! I graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor's Degree in English and am completing my Master's in Library and Information Science from University of SC. I taught preschool for more than 11 years and decided to go back to school and get my master's in library and information science, enabling me to pursue a lifelong dream of becoming an elementary school librarian. I have experience working in the public library as well, and was in charge of all children's programming, services, collection and story times at my library branch.
My family have lived in Fort Mill for 13 years. I have two amazing sons, who both attended elementary school at Riverview and are now in high school at Catawba Ridge - Go Copperheads! My husband and I have been married for 21 years. We both went to USC. Go Gamecocks!!! Dash is our 3-year old Mini Australian Shepherd and the cutest puppy ever!
I am excited about the opportunity to help students develop a love of literacy and introduce them to the magical world of books and reading. Life skills, such as critical thinking, are important skills taught during library time and provide meaningful experiences with literacy, knowledge, and education.
Educating children and providing them with early literacy opportunities is my great passion. Teaching students vital critical thinking skills and information research is an important part of my job as your school librarian. For me, literacy has truly become a central focus in all areas of my life. My desire to teach others about the joy of reading and the adventures available to anyone that opens the pages of a book have become my life’s work.
I am excited to be a part of the family community here at Riverview and am here to support all members of the RVES staff, teachers, administration, students and parents!
