Work Package Name Modulation of the Indoor Air Microbiome by plants

Objectives Uncovering the transmission of plant-associated microbiome into the airborne state and the specific influences of plants on the airborne microbiome.
Activities
In controlled laboratory studies, using laboratory scale versions of NBS-elements (e.g. green walls, green roofs) AIT will investigate the biodiversity transition between plants and air.
The air microbiome will be monitored using different plant concepts.
In parallel, the microbiome of the plant surfaces will be monitored to enable correlations between the plant surface and airborne microbiome.
Additionally, different treatments will be used to influence the plants and assess the influences on the plant microbiome as well as the indoor air microbiome.
Based on these insights, subsequent experiments will be planned in which the aim is to modulate the microbiome in the air by selectively influencing the plant microbiome (e.g., increase the microbial diversity on plant surfaces).
