It is time to attend the Introduction to Thinking Skills Forum.
One of the goals of AICE is to help students develop academic communication skills. Peer review and collaboration is key to becoming a successful AICE scholar. With the guidance of your instructors, you will work together to understand the ideas, issues, and examination prep for the AICE Thinking Skills AS Exam.
The purpose of a group discussion is not to assert or argue your opinions or prove an argument; instead, these forums provide opportunities to practice listening to your peers, find deeper meaning in the material, and strengthen each other’s writing skills.
Best practices for the AICE Thinking Skills AS Forum:
This is not a test of your memory; your goal is to understand the ideas, issues, and writing skills for the course.
When necessary, ask for clarification or restatement of the question.
Stick to the point under discussion; make notes about ideas you want to come back to.
Listen carefully.
Take turns speaking.
Talk to each other—not just to the instructor.
Discuss research and content-based ideas rather than opinions.
There are three parts to AICE Thinking Skills Forums
The Pre-Forum Assignment
Attending and Participating in your assigned forum group
Completing the Post Forum Reflection
Before your scheduled forum time, every student must complete the pre-forum assignment below. The information in the assignment will be used during the forum, so it's important to allow yourself enough time before the forum to complete it entirely. Any pre-forum assignments turned in after the start time of your assigned forum group will lose marks for the assignment.
The rubric below shows how you will be scored on the pre-forum assignment
Come to the Forum ready to discuss arguments with your classmates during your assigned forum time.
You should be able to discuss the following with your classmates during the forum:
the two components every argument needs
create your own argument based on images shown
assess your classmates arguments
Below are your assigned forum groups. If you have any issues with the assigned times you must let your instructor know more than 24 hours in advance.
